My Story

Born and educated in Perth, Western Australia, John Burbidge has visited more than 40 countries and lived in five. His homes have included an inner-city ghetto of Chicago, a remote aboriginal community in northwestern Australia, and numerous Indian villages.

After graduating from university in 1971, he joined an international organization that pioneered people’s participation in community and organizational development. Having played many roles from facilitator to fundraiser to communications director, he left the organization after 30 years to pursue his own writing. In addition to a literary biography, a memoir and a collection of travel-inspired stories, he has edited four other volumes and has had numerous articles published in books, journals, magazines and newspapers in Australia, Europe, India and North America.

He was the co-founder of the Seattle chapter of the Lesbian and Gay Immigration Rights Task Force and has administered several online writing groups. His personal interests include tai chi, cricket, Australian Rules Football and classical music. He lives with his husband on Molokai, Hawaii.
